Viru Viru International Airport ( IATA : VVI, ICAO : SLVR) is the largest and most important airport in Bolivia . It is located north of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra , in the municipality of Warnes . It was officially opened in 1983 and serves as a connection for several flights to and from Bolivia. It is a category 4E airport, according to ICAO . Due to the increase in passengers in recent years, the Ministry of the Presidency through the UPRE - Special Projects Unit- ordered the amount of Bs. 39,000,000.- (5,600,000.- $ us) to adapt the construction to the current requirements of the national flow in Bolivia.
